Detailed Content

Many workshops know this problem. Coil thickness reaches 4mm, 5mm, or even 6mm. Tensile strength runs high. The old  cut to length lines starts to fall short. Sheets still spring back after leveling. Burrs and edge cracks show up after shearing. Blade changes get more frequent. The issue usually isn't the operator. It's a mismatch between machine capacity and material conditions. This article looks at thick high strength coil processing and what to confirm when you select cut to length lines.

Applications

Not every sheet metal shop runs thick high strength coils. The work sits in a few sectors with clear demands on thickness and strength. These shops share one thing. Their material goes beyond standard thin sheet work. A steel roll to sheet cutting machine is built for this kind of load.

  • Steel structure fabrication

  • Construction machinery components

  • Checkered plate processing

  • Vehicle manufacturing and modification

Why 450MPa and 6mm Together Demand More from the Line

Buyers often say the same thing. I need to run 6mm steel plate. But 6mm is only thickness. At 450MPa, leveling rollers face higher force. A wider span makes roll deflection harder to control. Shear force across the blade edge becomes uneven. Coil weight and diameter affect loading and uncoiling. A cutting to length machine coil sheet meta setup must account for all of these.

This steel roll to sheet cutting machine runs a 15 roll leveler, 7 top and 8 bottom, with a 4H structure. Roll material is 40Cr with high frequency quenching and chrome coating. This cut to length lines setup uses a Cr12MoV blade, heat treated, with four usable sides. For 1mm to 6mm sheet, the machine adjusts blade gap automatically.

Built Around Your Material Conditions

  • Handles high strength coils. The frame and rolls are set for 450MPa material up to 6mm.

  • Keeps sheets flat. The leveler works the sheet through repeated bends to fight spring back.

  • Cuts thick plate clean. The blade holds its edge under heavy impact and can be rotated four times.

  • Adjusts to your thickness. Blade gap changes with material thickness so cut quality stays stable.

  • Runs from one console. One operator sets length, counts pieces, and watches for faults.

What Line Speed Does Not Tell You About Output

The line speed is ≤15 m/minute. That number alone doesn't tell you real output. Cutting speed changes with cut length.

  • 2m cut length gives 6 pieces per minute

  • 3m cut length gives 4 pieces per minute

  • 4m cut length gives 3 pieces per minute

  • 6m cut length gives 2 pieces per minute

Longer cut length means a longer cycle per shear. When you judge capacity, base real output on your main cut length. Line speed by itself can mislead.

Matching Details Often Missed in Thick High Strength Work

Once material conditions are clear, one detail gets overlooked in daily production.

  • Coil dimensions and loading fit: Confirm that the actual coil dimensions match the machine's decoiling and loading requirements. If incoming coil diameter varies a lot, check this before production.

If your material falls within these limits, a cut to length lines setup like this can handle the job. If it goes beyond, talk to the supplier before you  commit.
